North East | Miller and Carter - Newcastle

Last week I went for a late lunch at Miller and Carter in Newcastle. Mr P is a frequent visitor as he likes going with friends but I hadn't been before so while we were in Newcastle doing last minute xmas shopping we decided to go for a treat.

If out for a meal, I wouldn't usually choose a steak but i've been to a few meat specific restaurants like STK (review) and West 14th (review) and I really enjoyed eating there so I knew it would be nice.

As standard you get your chosen steak with a sauce of your choice, (i chose bĂ©arnaise) skinny fries, the yummiest crispy onions plus a wedge of iceberg lettuce with a sauce of your choice (i chose garlic mayonnaise & parmesan).

I ordered the smallest Sirloin Steak on the menu 8oz 'well done'  ~ I know people would think this is criminal but its necessary in my opinion. I also ordered a small portion of Mac & Cheese for the side.

For drinks I tried the Strawberry Twist which was a strawberry lemonade type mocktail which was really refreshing.

Compared to the other Steakhouses I had been to I thought the choices of sides were limited and I would have liked to see some chunky homemade chips or some roasted potatoes on offer. My friend Miss B loves mash with her Steak so I won't be able to take her here.

The restaurant is on 3 floors but open plan, so it does feel very spacious and even for 3pm on a Wednesday afternoon it was busy so it had a good atmosphere and with Christmas songs on it did feel festive. Service was very good they did check if we were happy between courses and offered additional drinks etc but nothing too much.

I will go back but it isn't a cheap for 2 people with a main meal and soft drinks it came to £52. So I will be on the look out for a discount code or special offer - maybe they will have a deal on for Newcastle restaurant week in January sign up for updates.

Home | IKEA lighting - Christmas special

I am obsessed with IKEA at the best of times but I absolutely LOVE their Christmas decorations and lighting. If you don't know its always right by the checkout, so I always park up near the exit and walk in where the returns are.

It is a little overwhelming to see what they have as there is such a high volume of christmas decorations, gift wrap, lights and candles.

It's not totally expensive but the fact you end up buying multiple items means it ends up being more than you planned.

My kitchen is quite dark, even though I have painted it white, my table and chairs are white, but I decided a table lamp would be good.

My table is new so I wanted something special to make it festive.

I fell in love instantly with the copper multiple star light, it doesn't give off loads of light but it does add a bit of something. Bonus is that it is battery powered but it also comes with a plug, and the batteries are recharged.

I know I am going to end up keeping this up all year around as it will look lovely on my desk if not longer on my kitchen table.

It was £24 but they did have to slightly cheaper £18 when I went for a second trip for more of the next item but I didn't need to buy another haha.

I  can't wait to tell you about a special copper star table lamp which I am totally in love with.

It was only £8!!!!!!!!!!!

Made of card I know its not going to last forever but its beautiful and perfect for brightening up my dark kitchen.

I will just tell you quickly about my paper decorations on the wall. They were only £1 each from Wilkinson's they had alot of lovely paper decorations but most of them would need to hang from the ceiling and I just didn't want to make unnecessary holes.

So I made multiple holes in the walls instead.. well I said I.. MR P got that job.

Because one star lamp wasn't enough...........I went back and purchased a red patterned version which would compliment my nordic theme red and white tree. Here it is next to my christmas tree complete with 'snow' faux fur rug.

Wishing you all a very festive weekend... the last one before Santa arrives. I still don't have any presents bought eeeeek!

Yorkshire | Bettys festive treats

Bettys cafes are dotted around Yorkshire and they do the best festive treats! Over the last month I have visited both York and Harrogate branches so I thought I would share what yummy things they have on offer.

I did also go for brunch on Sunday at the York cafe but it was a no mobile phone area so there is no pics of our delicious food (such a shame it was very nicely presented - I should have broken the rules). I went with my good friend Mrs B first thing on Sunday when we got off the train. We thought it would be better than queuing for lunch when we could be drinking some wine....

You are not able to book tables at Bettys so you have to be willing to queue outside. The one in York is 2 floors so if you are able to sit lower ground where you can't be 'seen' you can get seated pretty quickly and we didn't mind.

We both ordered breakfast but there were many people choosing to have cake (i can't lie.. I was tempted) but instead I opted for the scrambled eggs on a toasted muffin with 2 rashers of Yorkshire bacon.  My friend had the Eggs Royal with smoked salmon and said it was super tasty.

Back to the purpose of this post - over the two occasions I have visited Bettys over the last month I picked up these treats to share with Mr P.

For those who do not like christmas puddings, this little cupcake is a good alternative. It is a vanilla sponge with butter cream wrapped in marzipan and decorated like a christmas pudding. Light and fluffy and perfect for a little treat.

Bettys also have a lovely collection of cookies especially the ginger biscuits lebkuchen which they have in various christmas outfits - Snowman approx £2.50 or Santa which has alot more detail for around £4.25
These would make lovely stocking fillers or a little treat for a friend during the festive season.

They also had a shortbread rudolf but I couldn't take him home as well..

Bettys are also known for their classic Fat Rascal which are a scone type cake with alot of mixed fruit then decorated with face made of cherries and almonds. They currently have a christmas special which has stronger spices but tasted very similar.

Hope you are all enjoying the run up to the big day... not long to go now.
